FIVE ELEMENT ACUPUNCTURE

Treating people, not just symptoms

The root of five element acupuncture lies in the ancient Chinese philosophy that the same five natural elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water, are a part of each of us. It is the precise balance of these elements that has a fundamental impact on our physical and mental health. And, when aligned, allows us a sense of total wellbeing.

The five element branch of acupuncture takes an elevated focus on treating the patient’s core imbalance - the cause of the associated issues - which in turn brings an alleviation of the presenting symptoms. This preventative approach aims to end the cycle of physical or mental disparity where you gain relief from one symptom only for another to replace it.

Five element practitioners train to develop heightened sensory skills. This allows them to take the whole being into consideration when working with a patient. Recognising the underlying disharmonies often buried deep within your mind and body. And so, applying targeted treatment to those areas.

How does acupuncture work?

The ancient art of acupuncture is the practise of using needles at different points on the body in order to ease the flow of energy - or ‘Qi'. This balances the energetic system and removes any blocks. Different energy channels and points in the body correlate to specific organs and physiological functions. Your acupuncturist, Bruce, is highly skilled at reading the points of energy congestion around your body that is resulting in the symptoms you are experiencing. These may be mental or physical, or a combination of the two. He will then treat those specific areas to target the cause and, as in turn, the symptoms.

You can use acupuncture as a drug-free treatment to a specific condition. Or, as a supplement to a Western medicine approach. Regular treatment can also be successful as a general preventative measure.

Does acupuncture hurt?

The needles used for acupuncture are extremely fine, sterile, and are disposed of after a single use. They are gently inserted just below the surface of the skin, so you will usually experience no more than a dull ache. Clients often say that they find it a peaceful, calming experience. A time to relax while your body rebalances. Visit the 'What to expect' page to find out more about your first treatment.
